How To Walk In Your Blessings as a Family

How to Walk in Your Blessings as a Family
By Dr. Betty Price
This week's topic: Generational Blessings

The Christian life is an awesome, wonderful experience, but you have to grow up in your Christian walk. So many Christians want to grow up too fast and so they miss out; they let go of their faith confession before their blessings ever materialize. Jesus says in John 14:21-24:

He who has My commandments [that's His Word] and keeps them, [that means to obey them], it is he who loves Me. And he who loves me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him [if you want to know Jesus]. Judas, [not Iscariot] said to Him, Lord how is it that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world?

Jesus answered and said to him, if anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word and My Father will love him and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My Word and the Word which you hear is not mine but the Father which sent Me.

Jesus said if you love Him, you will keep His Word. That's the way you get to know Him; you get to know what He's all about. The Word of God must be received into your spirit first. At this point the manifestations are not yet received, but you have to believe the Word and act on it by faith. Then you will receive the promises of God by faith. Jesus and the Word are one according to Ephesians 3:14-21:

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named [we are family], that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height; to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Now the way you accomplish this by being filled with the Holy Spirit. You must build yourself up in the inner man by praying in the Holy Spirit and spending time in God's Word. These things cause your spirit man to grow. Your spirit man needs to grow in order to get your spiritual blessings out of the spirit realm into the material of physical realm.

First, you must find out what He says about marriage, children, finances, peace and all that is yours in the spirit realm. Secondly, you have to use your faith to bring these things out of the spirit realm into the material realm. Keep in mind that whatever His Word is saying to you and you act on, that's Jesus dwelling in your heart by faith. You receive it by faith before it is materialized.

You see, if God is dwelling in your hearts by faith (through the Word) then you'll know the love of God. You'll be rooted and grounded in love, and then it says you'll "...be able to comprehend or come to know what is the width, length, depth and height... of His fullness..." Until you start walking in God's Word you can't even imagine how awesome these blessings really are.

We have experienced that as a family as we have given our lives to Jesus Christ, but we had to learn this information like everybody else. We had hard times like everybody else, but we stayed with God. We didn't know that much in the beginning of our Christian life, but because we had Jesus Christ and we would read and see the things that He would do, well we were able to put up with each other until we learned better. I can tell you this, if we had not had Jesus at the center of our lives, we might not be here right now.

Psalm 112 is my favorite family chapter, and if you follow this you will have a blessed family too. Verses 1-3 read: Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches will be in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.

We live by this and we have proven that this Word works. These blessings were once in the spirit realm and now we have brought them into our physical lives. And, you can too if you will get this Word in you and then do the Word to the best of your ability.

Scripture Of The Day: "Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed." - Psalm 112:1-2

Make Room For Your Blessing

Make Room For Your Blessing
By Bishop E. Earl Jenkins
This week's topic: Generational Blessings

Most people today are familiar with the Prayer of Jabez and how he dared to ask God to bless him indeed. Many of us may have memorized and even recited Jabez’s prayer in hopes that God would likewise respond to our prayers and bless us in a like manner.

However, I believe one of the major reasons many of our prayers have not been answered is because we have forgotten or simply do not understand a principle that Jabez understood. This principle is: “God blesses those who have prepared themselves to be blessed”.

When Jabez asked God to bless him indeed, he was asking God do something He nor anyone around him had experienced. He asked for something out of the ordinary and supernatural. Recognizing he did not have the capacity to handle such a blessing, He petitioned God to provide him with the necessary capacity by expanding his borders. Jabez said, God bless me indeed, but don’t forget to correspondingly increase my ability to handle what You are going to do. This is the key to experiencing God’s abundance in your life.

Many of us have asked God to do something extra ordinary in our lives but we don’t have the capacity to handle or properly manage what we’ve asked for. We’ve asked God to pour out rivers of blessing upon us but only have a cups capacity. If God were to give us what we’ve asked for much of it would be wasted. God will never give us something that we are not ready for.

There may even be some who have been preparing themselves for expansion but have forgotten God in their preparation. You can’t build a barn big enough to hold what God can pour out. Only God knows the measure and integrity of the container needed to possess His blessings.

When God called Abraham and told him that he was going to multiply and bless him abundantly the first thing He told him was to move. God told him to move from his family and go to a place that He would show him. God told Abraham to move for two reasons:

(1) It would remove him from the pagan influences of his family and society, and
(2) to make room for the blessing that He had planned to give him.

Abraham disobeyed God by bring his nephew Lot with him and the first recorded quarrel they had was not over money or theological differences – but space. God had blessed Abraham to the point that the land could not hold both of them. The reason the land could not hold both of them was because the land was given in proportion to Abraham’s blessing. God blessed Abraham but also gave him the means and ability to possess and care for his blessing.

What have you asked God to do in your life? Do you believe that God will answer you? Are your preparations adequate and in line with what you’ve asked Him for? Have you included God in your preparations? I believe if Jabez were here to share with us the key to experiencing abundance in our lives he would say: First, believe that God will bless you, and second, you must be prepared for your blessing before it will comes.

Have you made room for your blessing?

Scripture Of The Day: “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested." - 1 Chronicles 4:10

Transgenerational Blessings

Transgenerational Blessings
By Dr. Patricia Bailey-Jones
This week's topic: Generational Blessings

In Genesis 45, the character qualities of Joseph are revealed. Joseph refuses to retaliate against his brothers, but rather he sets his family up for a breakthrough blessing. He transitions his family out of famine and lack into abundance. He changes their economic status; Joseph positioned his family to receive a bailout package.

This stimulus package not only stirred their economy as a family, it repositioned them for transgenerational wealth. The concept of transgenerational wealth requires generational planning. This is how many ethnic groups in developing countries have failed future generations. The lack of sacrificing present luxuries for future needs breeds a lack of integrity for stewardship.

Unfortunately, even we in the West have embraced the same careless principles. These principles are robed with sophisticated degrees and approved by celebrities, accepted by popularity and executed by government.

God's original plan for families has always been to establish a channel for His goodness and mercy of transgenerational wealth to flow through. This one act of transgenerational wealth would position Jacob's sons and his son's sons to come into their inheritance of the Abrahamic covenant.

The transgenerational blessing of the Abrahamic covenant holds neither expiration date nor limitation of abundance nor scarcity of favor. The covenant of transgenerational blessings vetoes and dismantles the most restricted and hostel decrees and legislations of the day.

The Egyptian government owned Hebrew slaves, which was the judicial custom of the day. Yet Pharaoh promised them the best land of Egypt and the very fat of the land. Genesis 45:18 which states, "And bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land." (New International Version)

When the scripture refers to the fat of the land, it means the choicest produce of the land. The God, El Shaddai, not only gave these slaves descendant land, but He also gave them the most fertile part of the land for future re-production. This land allotment of fertile soil positioned them to become financially self-sufficient through cultivating the best orchards and vineyards.

Even globally today, the Israelis provide the world's best vegetation produce and vibrant flowers. Because of Joseph's loyalty and display of integrity to Pharaoh and his commitment to the transgenerational covenant, the favor of God was transferred from him to future tribes. They were able to develop a business that the sons of Jacob could inherit and pass on to their sons; this is a covenant example of transgenerational blessings. It is a promise to every believer that through us, the nations of the Earth shall be blessed.

You have within your spiritual loins job promotions, college education, houses, businesses, and career opportunities that have been provided by God through you for your family. Everything that God has predestined for you and your family has already been deposited in you.

You are a courier of transgenerational blessings.

Scripture Of The Day: "And bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land." - Genesis 45:18 (NIV)

Honoring Your Parents

Honoring Your Parents
By Bishop Keith Butler
This week's topic: Generational Blessings

What is the promise that comes along with honoring your father and mother? It will be well with you, and you will live long on the earth. The Amplified translation of Ephesians 6:1-2 says it this way: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord [as his representatives], for this is just and right. Honor (esteem, and value as precious) your father and mother…”

He did not say to honor them if they were right. Nor did it say to honor, esteem, and value your parents if they were perfect. God said, honor, esteem and value as precious your father and your mother. This is the first commandment with a promise.

To honor your parents is to love them. And God’s love is unconditional. The kind of love He expects us to exhibit as His children, as believers, is unconditional love even if we had parents who were terrible. Why is this? It is for your own preservation. Verse 3 says, “That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.” In other words, your prosperity in the earth is tied to how you treat your parents.

When your parents need help, and when they get old, they should not be thrown away like an old shoe in case they get in the way of your life. This is one reason why God expects you not to get into debt. When your parents get old you should be willing to assist them. The Bible said, as a man sows that shall he also reap. You do not know, if Jesus tarries, that you will be old one day and you may need assistance from your children.

People wonder why they do what the Bible says, and do not get the blessing. It is because they have not accepted all of the Bible. They picked up certain portions they wanted to pick up. They liked the mo ney cometh part, but not the take care of the parents’ part. You have to accept all of God’s word.

If you will live godly, God will bless your seed and your seed’s seed. It says to honor your parents. Obey your parents. If you are a young person, it does not matter whether or not mama understands, do what she tells you to do. Do what your parents tell you to do and honor them, and you will live long and see good days on the earth.

Scripture Of The Day: "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother" - Ephesians 6:1-2 (KJV)

Teach Your Family To Remember GOD's Goodness

Teach Your Family to Remember God’s Goodness
By Pastor Paula White
This week's topic: Generational Blessings

We recently celebrated Memorial Day – a day when our nation remembers those who gave their lives fighting for freedom and defending our nation. A memorial calls for a time of remembering and thinking about any people or events that impact our lives. In offering a memorial, we are honoring the importance of those people or events, and we find inspiration, hope and empowerment in the impact of their memory.

Spiritually, memorials have always been an important part of worship. It is a way of remembering God’s goodness in the past, and planting seeds of encouragement and hope for the future.

We see this in the biblical illustration in Joshua 4. After Joshua led God’s people across the Jordan, and brought the children of Israel into the Promised Land, God commanded that they build up memorial stones from the river to remember His miraculous works.

Joshua explained the reason for building the stone “lodge” God commanded: That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever. (Joshua 4:6 –7)

In the Old Testament, God would command His people to build memorials such as this, as well as altars upon which animals might be sacrificed. A memorial altar was a visible sign of one’s thanksgiving and praise to God.

This passage shows us that memorials are also a way of teaching our children to remember God. As parents, we know that our children are watching us – and that unless we instruct them in word and in deed, they will miss acknowledging the goodness of God, and His mighty power in their lives.

We can teach our children to remember God, simply by creating “memorial lists of thanksgiving” – which include a list of all the things God has given them or done for them in the past. A “memorial list” can be easily placed on a cork-board, desk, or refrigerator (where it will definitely be seen on a daily basis!) so that it serves as a continual reminder of God’s goodness in their lives.

Encourage your children to include things on their lists like

• the people who genuinely love and care for them
• their personal health, energy and strength
• a safe home
• the opportunity to go to school and receive an education
• friends who are trustworthy, loyal and love God
• adequate food, clothing and shelter
• family pets
• sports activities – winning a game

These are the kinds of daily blessings children should be taught to remember to thank God for. Teaching our children to remember to thank God will also keep us on point in our own gratefulness to our awesome Father.

Remembering what God has done in our lives in the past will help empower and inspire us in the future – especially when we are going through challenging times. Our children will need the same kind of enduring faith when they face difficulties -- so teaching them to remember God’s goodness now will be an important tool in their arsenal for meeting the ups and downs of life they will face.

Remembering God’s goodness is a generational blessing in and of itself. So pass it along!

Scripture Of The Day: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it" - Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
